Newton’s Municipal election is over and the voters have spoken. 37.6 percent or 22,687 of Newton’s voters turned out to cast their votes for Mayor, School Committee, City Council and a ballot question repealing the overnight winter parking ban.
Voters voted in favor of Marc Laredo as the next Mayor of Newton with 17,494 votes over Al Cecchinelli who received 3,044 votes.
As for the votes for School Committee and City Council seats:
In Ward 2 for School Committee: Linda Swain won with 9,265 votes over Christine Fisher’s 6,153 votes.
It was a close race for the Ward 4 City Councilor at large: Incumbent Josh Krintzman retains his seat with 11,602 votes, and newcomer Cyrus Dahmubed won with 9,127 votes over John Chaimanis with 8,390 votes.
For Ward 5 Ward Councilor: Julie Irish won with 1,533 votes over challenger Garret Miller who received 1,014 votes.
For the Ward 5 School Committee seat: Ben Schlesinger won with 9,396 votes over challenger Jenna Miara who received 7,407 votes.
For the Ward 6 Councilor at Large seat: Lisa Gordon won the most votes with 10,729 with Sean Roche winning the seat with 8,515 votes while challenger Ted Gross received 4,799 votes.
For the Ward 6 School Committee seat: Jonathan Greene won with 9.514 votes over challenger Mali Brodt who received 6,769 votes.
And in the Ward 8 School Committee race: Victor Lee won with 11,186 votes over challenger Jim Murphy who received 5,257 votes.
And the closest race of them all was the ballot question repealing the Winter Overnight Parking ban. It failed to pass by a difference of 71 votes. So, the parking ban will remain.
