Today is Community Media Day 2025!
Community Media Day is an annual celebration that brings awareness to the importance of free speech and accessible media for all. For more than 30 years, NewTV has proudly provided Newton with a platform where everyone can have their voices heard and stay connected to their community.
This year, CMD comes just 3 weeks after our inaugural Future Forward Gala. At the gala, we shared NewTV's mission and vision for the future with prominent local businesses and community leaders in Newton. Our gala event also served as the launchpad for our Future Forward fundraising campaign.
Community Media Centers like NewTV are funded primarily by cable revenues from local subscribers. As more people "cut the cord"in favor of streaming services, cable revenues decline right alongside the funding for community media. For Community Media Day 2025, our theme is "Lights, Camera, Take Action!" letting our supporters know how they can help NewTV move Future Forward.
Almost serendipitously, Fig City News released an article spotlighting NewTV's role in the Newton Community on Community Media Day! Reporter Charlie Johnson took a careful, in-depth look at what we do here at NewTV from the perspective of our staff, former interns, and other community leaders, and eloquently presented just how essential NewTV is to Newton's past, present, and future.
