30 percent of Newton’s voters turned out for the State Primary Election on September 1, 2026. The Democratic Party’s Ballot had five contested races depending upon precincts, while the Republican Party’s Ballot had one contested race. Here are the unofficial results.

On the Democratic Party Ballot:
Incumbent Senator Edward Markey defeated candidate Seth Moulton with 9,748 votes over 7,153 votes

Incumbent Representative Jake Auchincloss won against Democratic opponent, Jason Poulos with 12,348 votes over 4,231 votes.

Incumbent District Attorney Marian Ryan won with 10,550 votes over opponent, David Sole with 4,189 votes.

Incumbent Councillor Mara Dolan won with 9,269 votes over candidate Margie Palladino with 3,746 votes.

And Incumbent Representative John Lawn won with 897 votes over candidate Alison Leary with 566 votes.

On the Republic Party Ballot:
The race for Governor was won by Michael Minogue with 919 votes over candidate Brian Shortsleeve with 462 votes.
