NewTV Launches Two-Year Capital Campaign to Raise $300,000

THE EMMY AWARD-WINNING STATION WILL UPGRADE TO STATE-OF-THE-ART 4K VIDEO PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY.

Newton, MA – NewTV, an Emmy Award-winning community media center, is excited to announce the launch of its two-year capital campaign, “Future Forward: Advancing Media Excellence for the Next Generation.” The capital campaign will raise $300,000 to support a comprehensive transition to state-of-the-art 4K video technology, including equipment and infrastructure redesign. This investment will ensure that NewTV remains a national leader in community media, empowering us to deliver high-quality content and enhanced services to our community.

NewTV offers original programming on its cable channels and online outlets. The media center provides access to in-studio and field production equipment, editing facilities, workshops, and professional support services—valued at over $3.5 million annually—to its members. NewTV’s programming includes shows produced or sponsored by community members on various topics, including retirement and financial advice for seniors, to live-streamed graduations, election debates, and government meetings. The station played a crucial role in the community during the COVID-19 pandemic, delivering timely information to residents via Newton News, its award-winning weekly news show produced since 1994.

The campaign is essential for NewTV’s adaptation to the ongoing decline in cable subscriptions, which have long been a core funding source. By modernizing its technology and infrastructure, NewTV will continue to offer its invaluable services to the community, ensuring access to quality programming and training opportunities for years to come.

“Investing in 4K technology will position NewTV for long-term success, allowing us to serve our community better and offer superior programming,” said Robert S. Kelly, Executive Director of NewTV. “In the coming weeks, we’ll share more exciting details about how you can participate—whether through a donation or by joining us at special events. Your support is not just appreciated– it’s crucial. It will be key in helping us reach our campaign milestones and maximize the tremendous impact this initiative will have on NewTV.”

“The capital campaign is a testament to our commitment to staying the leader in community media,” said Paul Sears, president of NewTV's board. “By investing in advanced technology, we are not only ensuring NewTV’s ability to provide exceptional services and programming for our members and the broader community well into the future but also opening up new possibilities and opportunities for growth.”
