It's a Great Time to be a NewTV Member!

Could we be entering a NewTV Renaissance? With a recent uptick in new members of all ages and from walks of life, a revival of our Members Network, and lots of new and exciting things on the horizon... all signs point to YES!
If At First You Don't Succeed...
In the past, our Members Network would meet quarterly to workshop projects, ask questions, get to know their fellow NewTV members, and simply enjoy one another's company. When the pandemic hit, our in-person Members Network meetings were put on hold, and meeting over Zoom didn't quite have the same appeal. (You can't have free pizza over Zoom!)
In the years since the end of the pandemic restrictions, attempts to revitalize the Members Network were met with varying degrees of success. That is, until February 2026 when our three member-elected Board members - Tod, Elizabeth, and Barry - met with our Production Assistant Amelia. The four put their heads together to devise a new approach to the Members Network... But without question, keeping the free pizza.
After much planning, including a survey of all members, several meetings, and creating three separate breakout sessions, the Members Network meeting was scheduled for February 25. Advertising in our newsletter, on social media, and through other community events postings, we waited with baited breath for the registrations to come in... and come in they did!
We had more members, both old friends and new faces, join us for the meeting than any other time in post-pandemic years. The breakout sessions were a hit! Everyone was able to learn something new, or sharpen their existing skills.
Ready for Round 2
Just a few short weeks after the Members Network Meeting was our Annual Membership Meeting. As the name suggests, the Annual Meeting is held each year on the third Wednesday of March. At this meeting, we hear from some members of our Board of Directors, review the departmental reports from the previous year, and hold elections for member board seats
It is always wonderful to see our Board of Directors, members, and staff coming together to celebrate the accomplishments of NewTV. This year we were fortunate to have some of our newest members joining us to really get a handle on what NewTV is all about. Sadly, our Executive Director was unable to join us in-person, but he did an amazing job of leading the presentation over Zoom. To make it more realistic, we put his monitor behind the podium and topped it off with a NewTV hat. You could barely tell he wasn't actually in the studio!
As a part of our 2025 review, we presented Newton News Director Jenn Adams with a beautiful bouquet of flowers in celebration of her winning the 2025 Brian Wilson Mentor Award from the Alliance of Community Media. This award recognizes an individual who has served as a mentor and inspiration to others in PEG Media. With hundreds of past interns holding successful careers in broadcast journalism, Jenn is more than deserving of this award for her excellence in mentorship!
Speaking of excellence, NewTV was also honored by the Alliance for Community Media in 2025. We were awarded the Hometown Media Award for Overall Excellence in PEG Media for our budget category! That means we are one of the best Community Media Centers in
the nation. We have been given this accolade several times over the years, but we are always grateful for the recognition of the continued quality of the work done by our members, staff, and Board of Directors.

NewTV is never one to forget about food, so we celebrated after the meeting with light refreshments and great conversation. All in all, it was a lovely evening, and we are grateful to our members, board, staff, and entire community who make everything that NewTV does possible!
