Newton News: Fares Increase & Services Decrease for MBTA

Over 200 people attended the first of 25 meetings the MBTA plans to hold to talk about the higher fares and reduced services currently on the table to reduce their 161 million dollar deficit.  The MBTA has proposed two scenarios to reduce their deficit. Scenario one includes a higher fare increase and smaller number of service reductions while scenario 2 offers a slightly lower fare increase and a larger service reduction. Over 130 people expressed their opinion to the MBTA, including the Mayor.
