City Buying Sprinklers for Schools

September 28, 2011

The School Committee heard good news Monday night. The Mayor stated the City's Capital Improvement Plan will pay the $2 million dollar for the mandated installation of sprinklers for the newly renovated and expanded schools. This includes the three elementary schools that are receiving modular classrooms and Day Middle School if all plans move forward. Right now the cost estimate without the sprinkler systems for the four additional modulars are just under $100 thousand dollars while additions and renovations for Day have two options, with or without additional space and the cost estimates are between 4.3 Million and $4.8 million dollars. But taking off the $2million dollar cost of sprinklers greatly reduces the stress of keeping within the $5 million dollars the city allocated for the modulars and renovations.
