PRODUCER
PROFILE: *JOE HUNTER*

Joe
has lived in Newton since 1995 with his family. He is a native of
West Virginia and has a background in languages, radio reporting, and
public affairs. Joe joined NewTV in 2002. How did you first hear
about NewTV? “I saw the information on the channel when I was
surfing around and saw the screen about the classes. It sounded like
a good idea and I starting taking classes about a year ago.” What
were your specific reasons for getting involved at NewTV? “I wasn’t
totally new at this. I was a radio reporter early on and knew about
reporting and editing, but had never thought about myself as
particularly visual. I had also worked in public relations at
colleges and universities. Two years ago I bought an IMac computer
and it had I-Movie on it. My brother-in-law did video on the Mac &
recommended it to me. I did a video about cats and set it to
classical music – a love song with two cats. I liked taking pieces
of music and finding video applications. I got into editing and then
taught myself Final Cut Pro. Then I did some video projects for my
job. I saw NewTV as an opportunity to head in new directions. I also
realized it was helping me get back to my roots in public affairs.”
What is your current project at NewTV? (Joe is producing a series
called the “Newton History Project.) “I actually credit coming to
NewTV for my idea; I didn’t have an idea at first. Wherever I’ve
lived I’ve tried to learn about the history of that area. I went to
the Newton History Museum and they were enthusiastic about my idea –
it’s now a collaboration – they are assisting me with topic areas
and guests. I currently have 3 shows planned, but could possibly end
up doing 20!” How has producing at NewTV been for you? “Everyone
has been very helpful and supportive. It’s been a good experience.
I’m currently looking for any NewTV members interested in local
history – I’d welcome their ideas or crew assistance” (Contact

What’s your favorite thing about NewTV? “From the moment I got
involved, it’s been a tremendous experience. NewTV has enabled and
empowered me to put my program on the air. It’s the best kept
secret in Newton !”
