• The Community Behind the Media Center

by Shelly Kamanitz, Director of Marketing and Creative Services - August 04, 2017 | Tags: ,

A community media center’s members are a reflection of its success, as they provide most of the content on the channels and represent the personality of the organization. NewTV is fortunate to have many diverse and interesting members from different backgrounds and with varied interests – each with a unique story to tell.

  • Producing to the Maxx

by Ellen Lacey, Director of Production Services - March 10, 2017 | Tags: ,

NewTV’s Production Services Department has been producing up a storm with The TJX Corporation for their internal State of the Company meetings. Both Ellen and Noreen produced and supervised shoots as well as postproduction to include editorial, effects, and sound mixing for TJ Maxx/Marshalls and TJX Corporate. Production Services teamed with Framed Up Director Bill Cuccinello and National Video's senior After Effects editor Steve Ball to create fun and engaging videos featuring interacting icons with their employees. Our own Curry College intern Maggie McGinnis joined us as a Production Assistant. Maggie attended the early morning shoots and edits. She got to see first hand how a full-on video production is created saying, “I was very surprised at how quickly scripts changed on the set.”

  • Community Media Community

The staff at NewTV are always trying to provide the best services we can to our members, whether that is in the form of new equipment, updated software, specialized classes, upgraded facilities, entertaining events or something else entirely. As 2017 begins, our quest is no different. We have already upgraded to Adobe CC 2017, updated Final Cut X and distributed a membership survey to assess the needs and wants of our membership. In addition, we are trying to implement our own creative ideas.

  • Community Media: Sharing Resources Impacting Seniors

by Director of Government and Educational Media - January 13, 2017 | Tags: ,

Everyday, 10,000 people in the United States turn 65 years old. Record numbers are showing that we are living longer than ever before in human history. For instance, if you live to be 65, you are quite likely to live another 20 years to celebrate your 85th. This cohort is growing at a faster rate than any other group. At this rate, the senior population is going to increase from approximately 20% to more than 26%. Not only are people living much longer, but generally, they want to age in place: they want to stay in their homes or in their home communities rather than in a long-term care facility.

  • Arts & Culture Mingle at NewTV

by Shelly Kamanitz, Director of Marketing and Creative Services - December 22, 2016 | Tags: , ,

NewTV has been supporting local Newton artists for many years now. Our in-house art gallery rotates every month or so, and includes artists from Newton Open Studios (NOS), New Art Center (NAC), and occasionally some solo artists from the surrounding area. For the last six years, we have been hosting our popular wine and cheese receptions for the artists and they have brought in a diverse group of people, some who are familiar with NewTV and some who have never heard of us. It’s a great way for the artists to get exposure for their work, and for the local Newton community to learn about and become involved with NewTV.
