Birthday Parties at NewTV
Looking for a fun and original idea for your child’s birthday party? Well, look no further than NewTV. Our talented Production Coordinator, Kathleen Golden has created an imaginative alternative to the traditional themed birthday party. She will guide your children through the steps necessary to create their own TV show while celebrating their birthday with friends. It’s lots of fun for the kids and it also gets them interested and involved in television production at a young age.
It’s very easy to set up. Kathleen will initiate the planning process over the phone. She will then meet with both parent and child to discuss the show theme. All you need to provide are the refreshments. We’ll have everything else all set up and ready to go in the studio when you get here. Your child will choose a background for the green screen shoot and then start storyboarding with hand-drawn sketches to get the sequence worked out.
Your children will be in great hands with Kathleen, who has extensive experience working with children and television production. As a full-time teacher for Montessori schools in Cambridge and Natick, she also managed to study for her Masters in Education while raising four kids! In Natick, Kathleen started a video production studio and field class for middle school students. She taught “Create a TV Show” through Newton Community Education and “Digital Storytelling” at NewTV. She became a NewTV member in 1990, took all of the studio and field production classes, and then volunteered on 8 different shows as a director, editor and producer. Kathleen started working part-time and weekends at NewTV in 2005 and has been a full-time employee since September 2011, working weekdays from Mon-Wed, and flying solo on Saturday and Sunday.
Our past birthday party shows include a news show, a Public Service Announcement (PSA) and a commercial. Two groups chose to do a dance party. This is a great opportunity for your children to express their creative ideas on video. After the fun in the studio, you’ll celebrate with your own treats and screen a rough cut of the show. Each partier will get their own DVD copy.
NewTV can accommodate a maximum of six students, ages 9-13 on a Saturday or Sunday from 2-4pm. Suggested donation for the birthday party is $250. A family membership is included, which will allow you and your family to continue their television production education at NewTV.
All proceeds benefit the NewTV scholarship program, which enables qualified students to pursue successful careers in television production and broadcast journalism.
