Energy Revolution
Newton is once again in the forefront as the leader in going green. Starting July 1st, Newton will begin the process of getting 100 percent of its municipal energy from green or renewable sources. And it will save the city $300 thousand dollars over the next three years. This falls in line with the Mayor's announcement in February to reduce energy consumption by 20 percent by 2020. The Mayor announced the new initiative in his office with Lt. Governor Tim Murray and Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs, Richard Sullivan.
